never underestimate teenagers

Never under estimate the ability of our teenagers to learn. Give them the tools – the right books, at their level, introduce them to the easiest way of doing something and they can surge ahead. I have been teaching music theory a lot recently and have felt nervous about entering the students for the dreaded grade 5 exam before they are ready. However, time dictated that I had to enter one of the students when I knew I had not taught her everything she needed to know.   I gave her a copy of ‘Music Dictionary’ for GCSE Music, taught her how to go about writing a melody and the other exercises that she had found most difficult and left her to it while I went on holiday. She passed.
